Missing You Poems

Our collection of Missing You Poems will help you express the feelings that arise when somebody you care about is not around. The absence may be temporary, or they may live far away. Perhaps it is even a more permanent situation. In any event, the absence is real and is deeply felt. Sometimes the emotions are hard to cope with.

My Word Wizard poets know exactly what you are going through because they have experienced many of the same feelings you are now encountering. An old aphorism tells us that “distance makes the heart grow fonder.” The word distance in this case surely refers to physical proximity. However, we would take some license and add that two people can grow distant even while living in the same house! Whichever way you interpret the word, distance often leaves a huge gap in our lives.

It is for this reason that we’ve put together a collection of poems that tackle, head on, what missing someone really feels like.  We hope you enjoy these very special selections and we certainly hope they inspire you to put into thought and word just what you are feeling in your heart.

The Coldest Winter I Ever Spent Was a Summer in San Francisco

The Coldest Winter I Ever Spent Was a Summer in San Francisco Posted on November 30, 2011 Locale: San Francisco, California? Paris, France? Duluth, Minnesota? Milwaukee, Wisconsin? Originator: Mark Twain? Horace Walpole? James Quin? R. Q. Grant? Lord Byron? Anonymous? Dear Quote Investigator : Living in Menlo Park near San Francisco I have heard the following witticism credited to Mark Twain many times: The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco. I actually enjoy the weather here, so this saying always seemed implausible to me. Also, the San Francisco Chronicle once printed an article that cast doubt on the Twain attribution. Can you figure out who created this joke? Also, was the remark originally about SF or some other locale? Quote Investigator : There is no evidence in the papers and speeches of Mark Twain that he ever made this remark about San Franc...
